Police in Manipur have seized a truck-load containing 600 cases of ban Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) on Tuesday night.

The huge quantity of IMFL was seized by a tram of Imphal West police during a frisking and checking of vehicles plying on NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) last night, around 10 pm.

Addressing a press conference at Imphal Commando Complex on Wednesday, Imphal West Additional SP (Operations), Amarjit Lamabam said that the ban liquor was seized from a Tata truck proceeding to Imphal from Jiribam side at Moidangpok under Patsoi police station of Imphal West district.

Tuesday night’s seizure was one of the biggest detections of IMFL being smuggled into the state since the state started launching a mass drive against illegal sale and manufacture of liquor in the state. The police have been conducting the drive on the backdrop of busting of illegal liquor manufacturing units in past few months in the state, particularly in Thoubal district.

The Additional SP said that since the announcement of the mass drive, the police in district have intensified frisking and checking of vehicles heading towards Imphal from Jiribam side. The intensified drive led to the seizure of the truckload of IMFL, he claimed.
