Dimapur, September 19 (MExN): The entire month of September is being celebrated as the Rashtriya Poshan Maah. Prime Minister's Overreaching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment - Poshan Abhiyaan is a multi- ministerial convergence mission with the vision to address malnutrition with a targeted approach by 2022.

 

Zunheboto: Poshan Maah for Zunheboto district in convergence with Medical department under the topic ‘Nutrition and Hygiene’ was held at Town Hall, Pughoboto on September 19.


Addressing the gathering, SDO (C), Tiayanger stressed on maintaining a balanced diet and hygienic lifestyle for a good health. ‘Cleanliness Village Award’ by SDPDB Pughoboto once a year under LADP is to encourage the villages to clean their areas. He appealed to them to sensitize such programs in schools and the churches.
Resource person, Dr Alvis MO (Ayush) spoke on the important of nutrition and hygiene and take preventive measures to improve health.


DWO Zunheboto, Atula Kikon explained on the National Social Assistant Program such as old age pension, widow pension, disability and family pension etc. Kikon sought more cooperation from the ministry and asked the beneficiaries to submit proper documents with recent passport so as to get their schemes. Mughatovi, Supervisor Ghathashi also explained on the PMMVV.


CDPO Ghathashi, Chiro who chaired the program said that this Nutrition program will be conducted this whole September month and reach out to all the mothers and children in villages to eradicate the malnutrition and achieve their target by 2022.

 

Medziphema: As part of the ongoing Poshan Maah observation, ICDS project Medziphema organised an anemia awareness and screening camp along with Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) registration camp for adolescent girls and pregnant and lactating women in convergence with Health & Family Welfare and School Education at community hall, Molvom Village on September 19.


Around 80 pregnant and lactating women attended, out of which there were 18 first time mothers who were registered on the spot for PMMVY. Dr. Michelle spoke on prevention and treatment of anemia and maintenance of health and sanitation. 90 adolescent girls from Government High School and Primary School attended where free anemia screening was done and IFA, Calcium tablets and sanitary pads were distributed to the adolescent girls.


Key note address was delivered by CDPO Medziphema, Tsungrosongla and vote of thanks was pronounced by Poshan Coordinator, Lichenbeni.


Chümoukedima: A panchayat meeting of Chümoukedima Block, Dimapur on Poshan Abhiyan was held at Chümoukedima Town Council hall on September 19.


EAC & Administrator, Chümoukedima Town Council, Thejavizo Nakhro, in his keynote address, said that health issues, despite having sufficient food, may not be just because of diseases but may be due to nutrient deficiency which we are not aware of, and organising such a meeting is a concerted effort of different convergent departments under Poshan Abhiyan to educate the people about the importance of nutrition.


Taking the advantage the leaders from all 59 villages under Chümoukedima, Nakhro reminded them of the powers and functions of village Councils. He also administered the Poshan Pledge.

 


Highlights of the programme included PowerPoint presentations by representative of the following convergent Departments: Poshan Abhiyan & 1000 days of child by Supervisor, Social Welfare, Hekali Sema, ANC, PNC& health related issues by MO, Health & FW, Dr. A. Narola Toska, different schemes under Horticulture by DHO, Temsu Longkumer, Mid-day Meal by JEO, School Education, Kitoshi Zhimomi, Adhaar seeding by Inspector Food and CS, Portia T Aienla, different projects under Land Resources Department by Field Officer, Loan schemes by SO Rural Development, Yapangla and Water Supply and Sanitation by SDO PHED, Er Earl Thomson Ao.

 

Mon: Mon block convergence action plan committee on Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyaan conducted cooking demonstration on nutrition at Totok Chinglen and Totok Chingnyu A, B, C & D villages on September 19.


Supervisor, Social Welfare Department Mon, L. Amei Konyak, Block Coordinator under Mon Project, Yingphe Konyak and Anganwati workers were the demonstrators during the day.


The demonstrators shared on the importance of nutrition especially to the adolescent girls, children and to the lactating mothers. They said that most of the nutrition needs are met by breast milk in the first six months but after that the child must be fed a variety of food items for growth, learning and for fighting infections. Different food provides different essential nutrition which is needed to remain healthy and fit, the demonstrators added.

 

Ghathashi: Poshan Maah program was organised under CDPO Ghathashi at GHS Ghathashi with Medical Department and Education Department under the theme 'Right Age of Marriage' on September 18.


Message on health, hygiene and nutrition was delivered by MO Ghathashi, Khriekuolie and the message on the theme was delivered by Pharmacist, Alovito. Key note address was given by Supervisor Ghathashi, Mughatovi. Some items were distributed to the adolescent girls.
