DIMAPUR, APRIL 1 (MExN): The Power Department today informed that during these trying times, the officers, staff and field workers of the Department are responding to the call of duty to the best of their abilities.

“Perhaps most people are not aware of this fact, but we man and operate round the clock 24x7, more than a hundred electricity sub-stations and control rooms spread across the state,” a press release from the Engineer in Chief, Power, Nagaland, Er Shikato Sema stated.

He informed that even during this lockdown period, power department personnel are called to work to maintain power supply.

“But shockingly, in some incidents, some of our field staff on line restoration works were obstructed to carry out their duties by public vigilante groups,” he said.

The Engineer in Chief added: “we would be equally happy to stay indoors within the safe confines of our homes, as most citizens are during such a time of crisis. But is it going to be a solution? We don't think so.”

He therefore appealed to all citizens, including the Government to support the power sector too, in its efforts to maintain stable power supply.

He meanwhile said that the department has been encouraged by the Advisor (Power), Tovihoto Ayemi, who has donated150 (30ml) bottles of hand sanitizers, 500 face masks and 525 hand soaps to the department.

“Several of our former Chief Engineers, Er S I Longkumer, Er DA Shishak, Er K Miachieo, Er Imli Ao, Er G Chishi, Er Khose Sale, Er Rokozhalie Angami, Er K Yiese and Er K K Awomi, though retired, showed that they were no less retired in their concern and thoughts, by donating Rs 1.50 lakhs to the Department,” the Engineer added.

This fund has been used to acquire hand sanitizers and face masks for distribution to the department staff.
