Power scenario in Dimapur

James Shitiri
Lingrijan, Dimapur

Being a denizen of Dimapur I heaved a big sigh of relief when the present Advisor to the Power Department, Government of Nagaland was appointed somewhere in the latter half of March 2018.

Sigh of relief because he represents Dimapur – I Assembly Constituency and was under the impression that he is a young dynamic and resourceful leader with a vision to improve Dimapur and will do a world of good to the Dimapurians especially in the power sector.

I was elated one fine morning when leafing through Nagaland Post it carried a brief report with a picture that a big transformer has arrived Dimapur from South India and Dimapurians will get improved regular power supply but we are already in the Second half of September and the power scenario is at its lowest ebb.

We do come across press release and communiqué from Executive Engineer Transmission power department Dimapur that department regrets over erratic power supply or there will be shutdown from 26th July to 2nd Aug 18 for maintenance and improvement of power supply but it appears that all these release and communiqué are just eye wash and to keep the people at bay and to keep the people from uprising against the department. What I can understand is that Government does not have the will power to provide power regularly and truly change is coming infact it is simply a change of guard from T.R. to Rio, nothing but Old Wine in a New Bottle.

Just give us good road and regular power supply and power department owes an explaination for the frequent power cuts. I can vouch for it, there is not a single day where we have received 24 hours power supply. And load shedding is at its peak and it is an everyday affair. We have had enough of press release and communiqué, for heaven sake please translate it into action hope power that be. The power authorities and above all Advisor Power who represents prestigious constituency from Dimapur is listening and hope that we will see the light of the day at end of the day.
