Powerful IED found planted on NH-37

Following detection of planting a high intensity IED on the road, normal vehicular movement along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) was disturbed for some hours in the morning of September 19. The highway was opened for normal traffic only after the bomb experts defused the remote control IED weighing around 2.5 kg, around 10:30 am. The bag was found planted along the highway at Patsoi Lamkhai under Patsoi police station in Imphal West district. Troops of 5 J&K Rifles who were on routine ROP duty detected the IED and informed the police who rushed to the spot and took up precautionary measures. An additional police force from Imphal West district police headquarters rushed to the area before experts from the state police bomb detection and disposal squad were called out. The experts disposed off the explosive at a safe place at Sangaithel, police said.
