Preserve & promote your culture: Toshi Wungtung

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 10 (MExN): Advisor, I&PR, SCERT, VG & Chairman DPDB Tuensang, Toshi Wungtung, on Wednesday called upon the Yimchungrü to safeguard and promote their rich culture and traditions through the Medümneo festival in order to keep it alive.  

Speaking as special guest at the celebration of Medümneo festival, organized by Yimchunger Union Dimapur here at town hall Dimapur, Wungtung said that, today is a “devotional ritual” where it also marked as thanksgiving to the mothers, children and baby sitters.  

He further called upon the Yimchungrü to thank God for his “unwavering blessing and love and let the festival bring peace, unity and prosperity to the Yimchungrü in particular and Nagas in general.” He opined that the festival aims to inspire to work for the unity and well- being of the people and to strengthen the moral foundation of society.  

Wungtung also emphasized on the importance of preserving culture and tradition as ones identity and urged people to respect and uphold the principles of culture and tradition for the common aspiration of the people.  

Others who spoke at the programme included R Tohanba, ex- MLA; S Akumba, IPS (Rtd); K Zungkum, Ex- Minister and former president YUD, S Keoshu.  

Earlier, the programme was presided over by S Limtemong, while invocation was pronounced by Pastor YBCD, Athsan. Welcome address was delivered by president YUD, Albinus Atsumong while significance of Medümneo was highlighted by T. Lunsokhiung.  

Folk songs were also presented by Yimchungru beru Arihako Dimapur, I/C Zukheangla Langakhum, S Mukam Sotokur and C Shobah Sangphur.  

Vote of thanks was proposed by general secretary YUD, Dr. Tsukhumong (PT), while benediction was prayed by R Tsuyimla, women pastor YBCD.
