Public apprehend alleged highway robber

Dimapur, June 3 (MExN): One youth, alleged to be a highway robber, was apprehended by the public in Kohima. According to the Kohima police, the youth was caught by the Jotsoma Youth Organisation (JYO) at the Jotsoma bypass on June 3. The police said that on Saturday morning, JYO volunteers rushed to the bypass area after a report was received of trucks being stopped and robbed. He was returning after allegedly robbing truckers at the NH 29 bypass road at Jotsoma when he was spotted. The JYO volunteers pursued and apprehended him and later handed over to the police. He was identified as Renbemo Tsopoe (20), a resident of Midland, Kohima. Cash amounting to Rs. 15,000 along with two mobile phones were recovered from his possession. The police said that a case under IPC section 392 was registered at Zubza Police Station and investigation was on to inquire into alleged involvement of accomplices.
