The new lineup of Purple Fusion
After a break of more than 2 years following the demise of their former lead Vocalist Late Lamtsala Sangtam, Purple Fusion, the popular Folk Fusion Band from Nagaland, are back!
Apart from Guitarist Imsanger Longkumer and Bassist Mhathung Odyuo, we are back with a strong and new exciting lineup, the band informed in a media release.
Fronting the band will be Jez Vibeizonou Rupreo from Dimapur, described as a ‘dynamic and versatile powerhouse of a vocalist.’
She a classically trained vocalist who also holds a grade 7 certificate in Piano, the band informed.
Beside her musical talent, Jez is also a ‘studious student and a geek’ holding a Master Degree in Chemistry.
“Petite in stature but with one of the biggest voices around, Jez perfectly complements the music style of Purple Fusions folk fusion originals,” the band said in the release.
“We also plan to explore other genre and work on her originals with the band in the days to come,” it added.
Megorovi Sekhose on Drums is the other addition to the lineup. A self taught musician from Delhi, Mego has been teaching drums in a couple of schools in Kohima for the last 9 years.
Originally a rock and metal drummer who has played for bands like Black Rose, Mego’s addition brings about a distinctive flavor with his unique style of playing and improvisational skills, the band informed.
Though uncertain, negotiations are also on with Lichen Kichu, Guitarist and former band mate of Mhathung Odyuo from Divine Connection who has been considered an option as the second guitarist, it added.
Purple Fusion were the winner of The Akademia Awards Los Angeles for the best Singer, Songwriter/Folk Album 2015, and Winner of the Best Folk Fusion song at the Radiocity Awards Mumbai 2016.
The band have been in a hiatus after the untimely demise of their late vocalist Lamtsala Sangtam, who was also a recipient of the Governor’s award for outstanding achievement and contribution in Folk Fusion Music 2015.
