This is in reference to S.C. Jamir’s political article “Nagaland and her political voyage”. It is a matter of historical fact that it was Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India who torched the fire of mayhem in Nagalim by sending Indian armed forces in 1954 in Nagalim to suppress the sovereign right of the Nagas. He was, however, desperately unsuccessful as he had driven the Nagas beyond the border. Though the Nehru government unleashed the most brutal form of oppression and atrocity upon the Nagas, God forbid Nehru’s wildest dream to materialize. His government went even to the extent of formulating colonial policy of suppressing the movement of the Nagas through the Nagas. Accordingly, the so-called 16-point agreement was made to sign in the stolen name of the Naga people solely with an eye to uproot the movement of the Nagas on the one hand and divide the Nagas on the other. And that S.C. Jamir was one of the architects of that agreement. He was groomed and nurtured by the Government of India with the one-point agenda of crushing the Naga political movement no matter how diabolic it may be. Truly, Jamir inherited the political trait of Nehru and he came down upon the Nagas political struggle no less satanic than Nehru.
As seen from his narrative, Jamir is crafty enough to touch on Indo-Naga political history again and again, but to rock it in the manner that contradicts the actual political process. The historic Framework Agreement of 3rd August, 2015 is being handled very cautiously by Government of India and NSCN given the fact that it is a very sensitive and vital issue. It is however, a matter of great indignation that Jamir acted in the manner as if he is privy to the agreement. It is an exercise of irresponsibility on the part of Jamir to have taken the liberty of giving his own interpretation on the issues of Naga sovereignty and integration to creating confusion in the minds of the Naga people and the world.
He talked of factionalism and fragmented organizations in the Naga political movement. But, the fact is that he himself is one high profile Naga leader who sponsored factionalism to serve vested interests, particularly to weaken NSCN, the mainstream organization. When Jamir talked of the present predicament faced by the Nagas, his hands are not innocent. Multiple governments and multiple taxations are all rooted in divisive and diabolic policy which he executed with derisive pleasure during his hay time as Nagaland Chief Minister. Talking on Naga political voyage in an evangelical style and shedding crocodile’s tears on disunity among the Naga national workers is but hypocrisy.
In the context of Jamir’s deceitful concern for Naga political predicament, nothing can be far from truth for the Naga people know him to the bone. It is painful to recall the horror of brutality of the Indian armed forces under Nehru and a number of innocent Nagas killed through S.C.Jamir’s bloody policy targeting NSCN and its support groups and communities. However, NSCN has declared its stand that it has forgiven all the past mistakes committed against the people and nation in the name of Jesus. No one should harden his heart against his own people, his own nation and his own children. All Nagasshould unite in the declared national line through forgiveness.
