‘Responsibility of all indigenous people to protect our land’

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 15 (MExN): Nagaland Indigenous People Forum (NIPF), the Nagaland unit of the North East Indigenous People's Forum (NEIPF) today stated that it is the “equal responsibility of all the indigenous people to protect our land.”

The forum said this, as it expressed support the Nagaland State Government’s notification to carry out the Registration of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) and for the Inner Line Permit to cover the entire State of Nagaland.

This was resolved during the forum’s executive meeting held on September 14.

The NIPF stated that the “RIIN strives to maintain protection of all indigenous people and its tradition where ever it be in the world.”

“It is a must to have a clean populace in our land for which RIIN is felt a necessity. On the other hand the influx of illegal migrants is quite alarming and is a threat to the indigenous people of Nagaland. For which all the existing ILP check points in the state needs to be further strengthened and implementation of the ILP(BEFR Act, 1873) specially in Dimapur as well as other entry points throughout the state be enforced at the earliest,” the NIPF said.
