Riizhiikhrie wins Kohima Inter–School Tournament

Our Correspondent Kohima | July 15   Riizhiikhrie Govt Higher Secondary School edged G. Rio School 2-1 to emerge as champions of the 1st Kohima District Inter-School Football Tournament here at the Kohima Local Ground on Saturday.   Riizhiikhrie GHSSchool was awarded cash prize of Rs. 70,000 along with trophy and citation while runner-up G. Rio School pocketed Rs. 50,000.   G. Rio took the lead in the 20th minute through Sangti but minutes later, Riizhiikhrie pulled level courtesy an own goal when a G. Rio defender headed the ball back accidentally into their own net.   Both teams were locked in a 1-1 draw up until the 90th minute in the second half and the match seemed destined for extra time. But it was heartbreak for G. Rio School as Dziesenei-u scored the winning goal for Riizhiikhrie GHSS in the dying minutes of the 4-minutes of added time.   Riizhiikhrie Govt HSS on their road to success defeated Baptist High vie tie-breaker by 5 – 4 while in the 2nd round, they beat Dainty Buds 5-0; in quarters, they blanked Mt. Hermon 2-0 before beating Ministers' Hill Baptist HSS 2-0 to emerging as Pool-B winners; in the semi-finals, they beat Mt. Sinai HSS 1-0 and finally lifted the championship trophy after defeating G. Rio School 2-1 in the final match.   Semi finalists Mt. Sinai Higher Secondary School and Minister’s Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School received Rs. 20,000 each.   Temjen Toy, Additional Chief Secretary Nagaland graced the valedictory function and gave away prize to the winners.   Jointly organized by Royal Club Kohima and School Education Department, 24 teams participated in the tournament.
