Rio withdraws case from Election Commission

Dimapur, December 11 (MExN): Nagaland State Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha, Neiphiu Rio has withdrawn the case pertaining to dispute in Naga People’s Front (NPF) from the Election Commission of India (ECI).  

The ‘Dispute Case No. 5 of 2017’ filed at the Commission on August 17 relates to “Symbols (Reservation & Allotment)” with two contenders within the NPF Party. In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner dated December 11, the MP said that he was withdrawing the case “taking into consideration, the evolving political situations of the past few days in the State of Nagaland.” “The applicant in the aforesaid dispute case (Rio) had resigned from the post of presidentship of the Naga People’s Front Party with immediate effect vide letter dated 08.12.2017. In the circumstances, the undersigned may be permitted to withdraw the aforementioned case and an appropriate order may be passed in this regard,” the letter said.  

A copy of the letter was also delivered to NPF President Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu and PS Sudheer, Advocate on Record, who filed the petition at the ECI on behalf of Rio. Both the letters were acknowledged as received.
