Rodent pest management training held in Namthai

Mon, August 13 (MExN): The Sub-Divisional Agriculture Office, Naginimora organized a one day training programme on “rodent pest management” at Namthai village under Naginimora Sub-Division on August 13. 


A press release issued stated that in the training, Lawrence, SDAO, stressed on the importance of community based participatory approach to rodent management. Topics such as life cycle, rodent control methods, baiting techniques etc were also covered. 


“Rodent Pest management has become of prime importance especially in view of gregarious bamboo flowering in Nagaland this year. Several studies have shown that rodent outbreak is generally associated with bamboo flowering,” the release stated.


The SDAO called upon the farmers to monitor their field regularly in addition to periodic monitoring undertaken by the department and promptly report any incidence or outbreak.  Showang Konyak shared the traditional practices of rodent control. 25 farmers attended the training and 200 rodenticide cakes were distributed.
