Roko Angami graces KYO sports meet

Kohima, December 7 (MExN): The 56th annual games and sports meet 2018 of Kikriima Youth Organization (KYO) got underway on December 6 at St. Peter’s School Kikrüma local ground under Phek district.  

Gracing the occasion as special guest, Roko Angami, president Nagaland Football Coaches Association and former International Football player said that with the primary objective to encourage and promote football among the youth, the Nagaland Football Coaches Association (NFCA) will be organising a football coaching license course namely the AIFF D level certificate course from December 16-21 at Dimapur.  

He said that the NCFA intent is to support interested youth in the field of sports, particularly football.  

Towards this, he encouraged interested people come and attend the coaching license course.  

Encouraging the youth, Roko Angami said, through participation in games and sports one can build comradeship, learn to be patient, discipline and have self-control of oneself.  

To be a true sportsmanship, he maintained that one must learn to be patient while pointing out that Nagas tends to be short-tempered and also lack discipline and competitive challenge that is required of a sportsman.  

Narrating his life experience and struggles as a footballer who represented India at Israel, Angami also stressed that hardwork and self control goes a long way to becoming a sportsman.  

Most of all, he said that one should place God before anything else to be successful in life.  

The eight days sports meet will be marked by football, volleyball and basketball for men and women, track events viz. dash, sprint, race and country race and field events of high jump, broad jump, shot put, discus throw, javeline throw and triple jump.  

Seven khels from Kikrüma are participating in the sports meet.  

The football champion will walk away with running trophy and cash prize of Rs. 50,000 while the 1st ad 2nd runners up will receive Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 21,000 respectively.  

Cash prizes will be given away for all the disciplines.  

Thipusoyi Tünyi, village council chairman, North Kikrüma will grace the closing ceremony as the guest of honour on December 13.
