Rotary Club Dimapur conduct free heart disease checkup camp

3 year old Sangwachang, diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) since 6 months old was among other children waiting to be checked. Rotary Club of Dimapur today conducted ‘Rotary Free Heart Disease Check up Camp’ at Rotary Centre Midland, Dimapur. The checkup camp focuses on children with CHD, with the age limit of 12 years.

 


Rotary Club of Dimapur has tied up with Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Raipur, Chhattisgarh which renders totally free of cost Pediatric Cardiac Care focusing on Congenital Heart Disease irrespective of caste, creed, religion, nationality and financial status. Speaking to Rotarian Pradip Jain, Club Chair, Heart to Heart Project, he said that the Rotarians of Dimapur have been conducting heart disease checkup camp since 2006. And so far, 60 operations have been successful from Nagaland.

 


This year, three children had successful heart surgery from Chhattisgarh.
7 year old Athong from Peren district had a successful surgery in the month of July. Athong along with his father was here at the camp for follow up. His father, a private teacher expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Dimapur and Dr Atul Prabhu, the brain child behind the camp for the selfless service rendered to his son, who now gets a new lease of life.

 


13 year old Deepak, the eldest had a successful surgery in November.
The youngest patient to be operated, one year, four months old Kai Awomi came with his parents for follow up. His father acknowledged the seasoned doctor and his team for rendering selfless service to children across the globe.

 


Dr Atul Prabhu, Deputy Director and Pediatric Cardiologist at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital came along with Past District Governor (PDG) Shashi Varvandkar and PDG Ashok Kumar Agarwal for the check up camp. PDG Shashi Varvandkar said that everybody is welcome at Sathya Sai which has dedicated team of doctors, rendering service to humanity. The hospital has India’s first exclusive Cath Lab for congenital heart disease, donated by Rotary Club through Rotary International Help. “We assure the Rotarians to send as many people as possible. But once you are registered at the hospital, everything is free. Two persons can stay with the patient, the food, the medicines are free. You don’t have to touch your pocket,” said Varvandkar.

 

The hospital works on total donations, with people such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and many other philanthropists. “In a country like India, this is the first pediatric hospital dedicated for heart surgery,” remarked Varvandkar, and expressed joy to be an instrument for God’s work.

 


Around 12 children were registered for the health check up camp. The children would be admitted for the surgery according to its different cases.
