Dimapur, January 2 (MExN): Rotary Club of Dimapur organized Rotary New Year Picnic 2011 which marked the beginning of the year amidst pomp and joy, and was attended by more than 1500 people irrespective of caste, gender, age and creed.
A press note informed that the function was graced by Sungit I. Jamir, president NPCC and sitting State Legislature from Dimapur-II as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering after cutting the New Year cake, and extending his greetings to the people, “He appreciated the Rotarians of Dimapur for being resourceful and doing yeomen service to the community. He applauded the Heart to Heart and Gift of Life program that supports to provide better health to children suffering with congenial disease and has till now brought new life to twenty seven children since the inception of the program”. He also handed over a Death Claim Cheque amounting to ` 25,000 to the mother of the deceased child who was a student of St. Savio School, Chumukedima. It may be mentioned here that this school is covered under Child Insurance Scheme for school children sponsored by the club.
The note mentioned also the highlights of the day long program which started with the address of welcome by Chairman Picnic Committee Rtn. Akokla Pongen Lucy while president Rtn Sanjay Kumar Jain highlighted the Rotary activity of the year in brief included various games for children, men and women, breakfast and lunch to the taste of all peoples, dance competition by the upcoming buds and some special numbers by the youth.
