Dimapur, January 27 (MExN): In an exciting final, Royal Scotts Cricket Club (Delhi) narrowly defeated Dimapur Royals team by 2 wickets to lift the 5th edition of Dimapur Premier Leaque, 2016, at NCA Stadium on January 26.
Dimapur Royals electing to bat first managed to score 92 for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Barring openers Puchu Deb (11 runs) and Sedezalie (52 runs), no other Royals’ batsman withstood the strong bowling of the Delhi side.
In the run chase, the Royal Scotts started off well with openers Naveen Kumar (25 runs) and Sunil Pal (11 runs) managing to get 44 runs from the first 7 overs. But a dramatic collapse spun by off spinner Tahmeed Rahman, who finished with figures of 3 for 7, left the strong Delhi side reduced to 71 for 8 in the 14th over. However, experience of the Delhi side showed as they crept towards the target and managed to win the match in the 18th over without losing anymore wicket.
Dimapur Royals’ Sohaib finished with 2 for 17 runs while Akavi took 1 for 17 runs. Sedezalie of Dimapur Royals was named the Man of the Match of the final game. The winner Royal Scotts CC, Delhi received a cash prize of Rs. 70,000 and the running trophy while runners up Dimapur Royals CC received a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and the running trophy. Losing semi finalists Flamingoz SC and Victoria Stars received cash prize of Rs. 10,000 each.
The final was graced, by Anato Zhimomi, member of Nagaland Cricket Association and Director Zhimomi Groups of Industries, as Chief Guest.
