Dimapur, July 12 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya has issued a notification on the latest rules for regulation of Taxi permits in the State.
A. Regional Taxi Permit shall replace the existing Zonal Taxi permit which shall be issued by the respective Regional Transport Authority of each District under the following conditions:
B. The area of operation of the Regional Taxi permit shall be the whole of the District under whose Authority (RTA) the permit is granted, but shall not ply within the Municipal Limit of the District.
C. A Regional Taxi permit granted by the Regional Transport Authority of any one region shall not be valid in any other region, unless the permit has been countersigned, along with the prescribed countersignature fee, by the Regional Transport Authority of that other region as prescribed under Sub-section (I) of section 88 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
D. A Regional Taxi shall commence its journey, or end its journey, circular or otherwise, in the region, subject to the condition that the vehicle shall not operate outside the region beyond the contracted journey nor remain outside the region for more than one week. Further, the vehicle shall not be offered for hire outside the region except for the return journey.
E. Local Taxi permit, All Nagaland Tourist Taxi Permit and All India Tourist Taxi Permit shall remain same without any change.
The Regional Taxis shall have a superior White colour for any class of vehicle including Maxi Cabs and Mini Cabs similar to All Nagaland Tourist Taxi and All India Tourist Taxi.
The permit holder shall display the words “REGIONAL TAXI” painted in black colour on yellow background on the top front of the windshield glass of the vehicle in a prescribed manner and size.
The holders of Zonal Taxi permits are given a period of 6 months from the date of this notification to:
• Alter the colour from maple yellow to Superior White as notified; and,
• Alter the Permits from the Competent Authorities in compliance to this Notification.
Penalties shall be imposed upon defaulters on expiry of the stipulated period in accordance to the provision on the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Besides the stated conditions, all category/type of Taxis shall be regulated in accordance to the provision of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
Kenilo Apon, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland in a press release stated that this notification is issued in supersession of the earlier notification No.ACS/MISC-4/03 dated 20th April, 2004.
