Sankalp Se Siddhi: Doubling farmer’s income by 2022

Dimapur, August 31 (MExN): One day programme on ‘Sankalp Se Siddhi’ was organised by KVK, Dimapur at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Medziphema on August 30 in collaboration with ATMA, Dimapur where Vikhweno Chale, ADC Medziphema was chief guest. Vikhweno Chale appealed farmers to change their attitude and at the same time develop zeal to lean and accept the new technology, only then they can increase their income. She asked the farmers to adopt the organic farming for better pricing of their commodities. Dr. D.J. Rajkhowa, Joint Director, ICAR Nagaland highlighted the research and extension activities of the centre such as rain water harvesting for resource conservation and judicious use of water for vegetable cultivation during winter, use of high yielding varieties of crops including quality planting materials, value addition in locally available resources etc. Prof. A. Makar, Dean SASRD, Medziphema, NU in his expert remark highlighted the need to adopt seven point strategies for doubling the farmer’s income by 2022: Focus on irrigation with adequate resources; Increased production with improved seeds, planting materials, organic farming and soil health cards; Strengthening of warehouses and cold chain facilities to reduce the post harvest losses; Value addition through food processing; Overcoming deficiencies through e-National Agriculture Market; Work on institutional loan to reduce the risk and growth of agriculture sector; Allied activities of agriculture like dairy development poultry, beekeeping, fisheries, agro-forestry and integrated farming system. Dr. I Amenla, Director, SAMETI and Principal IETC, Medziphema speaking as guest of honour appealed the extension workers, Researchers and other government departments to come together and reach the unreached ones so that in reality the income of farmers can be doubled. A.C. Biswas, AGM, NABARD, asked the farmers to avail the different schemes of Govt of India for their benefit and informed that an amount of Rs 4,38,000 crore rupees were kept for developmental activities in Nagaland. A short video film was shown and pledge was taken to increase the farmer’s income, keep India clean, Keep it free from terrorism etc. Thejano Mukrsü, a progressive farmer of Seithikima A village, was felicitated in recognition of Pandit Deen Dayal Antodaya Krishi Puruskar (Zonal) for Zone VII for development of Integrated farming system in 1.85 ha area.
