Sao Chang College students visit Gangtok

Tuensang, January 25 (MExN): Vocational course students of Sao Chang (Government) College (SCC), Tuensang went to Gangtok, Sikkim for three-day training cum exposure visit on ‘Floriculture’ from January 16 to 18.  

Organized in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tuensang, the programme was carried out under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development.  

According to a press release received here, the main objective of the programme was to train and equip the vocational course students by exposing them to various technologies used in flower production for skill development and self-employment.  

During the three days, the team headed by the SCC principal, S. Chubasangla Chang along with three SCC RUSA committee members and a representative from KVK, Tuensang, Dr. Shisarenla Aier, SMS (Horticulture) accompanied the students to various centers.  

They visited National Research Centre on Orchids (Pakyong), Gerbera Village (Basilaka), Sikkim Organic Festival (Saramsha Gardens), Cole Crop Village (Samlik Chak), Pea and Potato field (Samlik), and Cymbidium Development Centre (Rumtek).  

Technical experts and farmers from the centers interacted with the students and gave hands on demonstrations on various technologies, it was informed.  

Certificates were distributed to all the participants along with reading materials. Altogether, 24 students attended the programme, which was coordinated by Tekameren Walling, SCC RUSA Coordinator.
