SASRD Annual School Week, Campus Sports Meet concludes

Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): The School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland University held its 24th Annual School Week and the Campus Sports Meet from October 8-13 with the theme “Education Redefined.”  

Thsuvisie Phoji, ADC, Medziphema, was the special guest during the event.  

A press note from SASRD informed that the event kicked off with Oath taking conducted by the Sports Secretary, P Eipa Phom. The students were divided into four houses namely Lannister, Baratheon, Targaryen and Stark based on the TV series Game of Thrones.  

Phoji, in his address, said that the school week comprises not only physical activities but also covers the mental aspect and participants should not only test the limits of their physical and mental aspects, but with discipline, sportsmanship and utmost coordination with teammates for the spirit of oneness.  

He also appreciated the cultural diversity of the college and urged the students to cherish the moments spent in the campus.  

Prof T Lanusosang, Pro-Vice Chancellor in his welcome address mentioned that games and sports are a part and parcel of life and urged all the students to keep a balance between academics and extra-curricular activities as learning involve both mental and physical activities.  

On October 12, to commemorate the year long Nagaland University Silver Jubilee celebrations, the Campus Sports Meet was incorporated with the School week, wherein the NU teaching and non-teaching staff competed against the students, the release further informed.  

It featured a men’s football match between the Student Union Office Bearers and NU staff, which the latter won with an overwhelming 7-2 score line. The ladies’ volley ball match was also won by the NU staff.  

In other events like sack race, spoon race, balloon fight, bamboo climbing, bamboo stick race, banana eating competition etc saw stiff completion, both the NU staff and students participated with enthusiastically.  

The Annual School Week titles of ‘Best Sports Man’, ‘Best Sports Woman’, ‘Cultural Laureate’ and ‘Literary Laureate’ were won W Shangkok Konyak, Werhu-ü Khutso, Vekhorülü Keyho and Vijaya Lakshmi respectively.  

The House of Lannister was declared as the winners of the 24th Annual School Week.  

At the valedictory programme on October 13, an exhibition basketball match for ladies was held between NU staff and students. The NU teaching & non teaching staff won the match.  

Dr. Watimongla Jamir, Vice-Principal, IETC, Medziphema graced the valedictory programme as the guest of honor.  

In her speech, she said that the dynamic leaders are the ones who take the responsibilities in their hands and get the job done and encouraged them to be such leader in the future. She also urged the students to have commitment and integrity in bringing about much needed change in the society.
