Dimapur, October 21 (MExN): A session on the application and selection process for Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships was conducted by John Paulraj for the students of Tetso College today here in the college premises at Sovima.

The resource person, as per a press release from the College, is a recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship and has completed his Master’s Degree in Anthropology and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. He also has a Master’s Degree in Disaster Management from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and has previously worked for TCSRD and IMI in India.

Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships are both UK government scholarship programmes aimed at creating and moulding global leaders and citizens which offer full scholarship for master’s degrees to study in the UK. In the session which was held specifically for post-graduate students of the college, Paulraj delivered an elaborate and detailed presentation such as step by step instructions for applying and the benefits provided under the two scholarships. The topics covered included course fees, living allowances, visa costs, flight costs and eligibility criteria, among others. He also shared from his own personal experience how he applied for the scholarship with which he was able to complete his post-graduate studies.

Encouraging the students to research on their core area of interests to study, the scholar not only provided pointers by chalking out a plan for them to utilize but also emphasized on the importance of systematizing and prioritizing their time.

Lastly, Paulraj reminded the students of the value of the three ‘Ps’ – passion, perseverance, and perspiration, which is instrumental for anyone to achieve something as there is no shortcut to success, he added. In the end, a mock interview was held which witnessed the resource person interviewing students as would in real-life when applying for scholarships.

Meanwhile, the college extended its gratitude to the resource person for enlightening the students about the application procedure and hoped that the knowledge imparted would go a long way in their academic endeavour.
