Scholarship: College students’ bodies in Tuensang support ENCSU demand

Tuensang, November 5 (MExN): The Tuensang based Sao Chang (Govt.) College Students ' Union (SCCSU) and Loyem Memorial Degree College Students' Union (LMDC, SU) have jointly extended support to the demand made by its apex body, Eastern Nagaland College Students' Union (ENCSU), for immediate disbursement of scholarship in full amount for the year 2016-17.

The two students’ bodies in a statement expressed anguish over the “inaction” and “irresponsible attitude” of the Department of Higher Education and the State Government in “turning deaf ears to the demand by ENCSU.”

Despite several appeals and representation submitted by the ENCSU, it questioned, why the department and the government are still not showing sign of positive response to its demand for the interest of students’ community.

Asserting that the two students’ unions will not tolerate such “manipulative policy” of the department and the government to continue, the statement from LMDC, SU president, PS Kongmai, LMDC, SU general secretary, Hechilila Sangtam and SCCSU general secretary, Changsomba Chang stated, such kind of policy totally affects the concerned students’ career.   “Release of scholarship in an installment basis to the ST students particularly in Nagaland, it is very unsound and known as funny game for the students community in Nagaland,” it maintained.

The two unions also asked the department and the government to immediately release the scholarship in full amount before the expiry of seven-day ultimatum served by ENCSU to Chief Minister.

They cautioned of “severe course of action” if the government and the department fail to fulfill the demand. “The two students’ unions unanimously support and stand by the demand made by ENCSU,” the statement added.
