The general conference of the Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Associations (FONSESA) was held at the conference Hall of PWD Rest House, NPWD Complex Kohima on August 23.

Addressing the conference, Er. F. Putsure, Retired Chief Engineer, PWD (Mechanical) & former president FONSESA said that many talented engineers are coming up in this competitive age but the scope available for the engineers are very limited in Nagaland. He urged the senior engineers to find avenue to expand the department to accommodate the upcoming young engineers.

Er R Temsutemjen Aier, Retired Chief Engineer, PWD (National Highway) and FONSESA advisor said engineers play a very important role in every walk of life. It is the engineers who contribute to a state’s or country’s technological and industrial progress, he said.

Er Aier said that engineers are a group of people mandated to implement various developmental works of the government in various sectors. He also lamented that while implementing various developmental works, “we neglect the importance of sustainable development and hurt the environment in many ways that one could possibly imagine.”

FONSESA vice president Limanaro said the society ought to look up to the engineers as those who create assets for the State, which adds to the comforts of the public, but today, the society looks down up on engineers as those who create problems and difficulties in the form of liabilities, overdrafts, etc.

“Let us try to be more committed and truthful to the responsibilities assigned to us to get the rightful place in the Government,” she said.

The role of Engineers and Technocrats in Nation building has been recognized time and again and there can be no denial to that fact, she said while asserting that FONSESA aims to address issues to maintain and uphold the working system of the Engineering Departments and safeguard the service career of the members of the Federation.
