Second Phase IPPI conducted successfully

Dimapur, February 27 (MExN): Second phase of IPPI in Mokokchung was launched at Imlong Place on February 27, 2011 by Sushil Kumar IAS, Probationary, Mokokchung who administered the first polio drops in presence of Dr. N. Meren, State observer & Deputy Director, Directorate of H& FW, CMO, Deputy CMO, DIO and volunteers.
A press note issued by Olemienla, media officer, NRHM, Mokokchung informed that during the launching programme, Sushil Kumar, IAS said Polio disease cannot be cured but can be prevented by taking the Polio vaccines and it is our responsibility to make sure that all children below five years are administered the polio drops. He also applauded the volunteers for their dedication and also encouraged them to put their best effort for polio eradication from the country.  A comic book on ‘’Crusade against polio and polio virus journey’’ were also distributed by Rotary Club of Mokokchung. Under the supervision of the District Task Force, a total of 200 polio booths were set up under Mokokchung district. The programme was carried out successfully through the active support and participation of the Health Workers, Indian Red Cross Society of Mokokchung, Rotary Club of Mokokchung, and Christian Youth Endeavour members from different churches, ASHAs, MSS, Anganwadi Workers, VHCs and Ward/Village Chairmen. The volunteers will conduct house to house visit on February 28 and March 1, covering both urban and rural areas.  
Also, the 2nd phase of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme was conducted at Mon on February 27, 2011. The ADC, Mon, Sarah R Ritse accompanied by EAC, Mon, Ilika Zhimomi, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joy Rongmei, and DIO, Mon, Dr. Mukherjee along with medical officers and staffs of CMO office Mon visited and inspected the 31 Polio Boots spread within Mon town. The ADC also administered the first polio drops to a child at CMO office, Mon.
A press note issued by S. Hongpi Konyak, DPRO, Mon informed that in order to ensure awareness to the mass and avail free Polio drops to all children below five years of age, the department of Information & Public Relations also made a wide town announcement in the morning before the program was launched. To check out left out children, door to door campaign would be conducted in the town on February 28 and 29 by the health workers. The town witnessed children visiting polio booths with their parents and receiving polio drops.  
Meanwhile, in another press note issued by Rtn Sanjay Kumar Jain, president, it was informed that on February 27, 2011, Rotary Club of Dimapur participated in the NID and successfully administered oral polio drops to 459 children. It is also informed that Rotary Club of Dimapur along with Rotaract Club of Dimapur maintained six Polio booths in Dimapur area.
