Shooting incident condemned

Dimapur, May 23 (MExN): Western Rengma Students' Union Nagaland (WRSUN) has condemned the May 21 incident at Blue Hill station, Dimapur, where one auto rickshaw driver, Gwahilo Seb, was shot on his leg by Kihoto Yeptho, a GPRN/NSCN cadre, “without provocation of any kind.”

In a press release issued by its President, Aga Rengma, WRSUN supported the 10-day deadline issued to the GPRN/NSCN demanding immediate termination of the accused from national service and giving befitting punishment.

The students’ union further appealed to all Naga Political Groups to refrain their cadres from carrying fire arms in public as “it jeopardizes the peaceful atmosphere and shakes the faith of innocent citizens on their claim as national workers". Wishing the victim a speedy recovery, the union also hoped that the authorities responsible help and compensate his medical expenses.

Meanwhile, it lauded the Tenyimi Youth Organisation Dimapur and Dimapur Police for timely action to provide justice to the victim.

Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) has also condemned the incident and appealed to all the right thinking people and peace loving citizens and organizations to come forward and condemn such activities. A press release from CYO President, Neizelie Keditsu and General Secretary, Thejangulie Metha further requested all the national workers not to create any inhuman activities in the future.

Denouncing the incident, the Tenyimi Students' Union Dimapur (TSUD) has also expressed shock that “some unscrupulous elements in the name of freedom fighters openly brandish guns and shoot at innocent civilians.” Terming such incident a cause of serious concern, TSUD has appealed to the law enforcing agency to give befitting punishment to the accused. TSUD further endorsed the ten-day ultimatum served to the GPRN/NSCN.
