Sin of slang words

Nagas are fortunate to have English as one of the basic form of communication. English, of course, is a rich language but the abrasive misuse of this language by so-called modern people comes in plenty.  The use of “modern slang” may sound impressive or cool in the ears of many people but truthfully, it tells us of how low and wicked humans have become. The world of social media has open up platforms for every individual to speak out their thoughts and opinions about events and important news. The freedom of speech is granted but the corruption of this expression in speaking all kinds of evil derogatory remarks reveals the depraved condition of a society.

Of late, the young Nagas, I suppose, have contributed a whole lot of ideas about the political mess in our state. Some have given quite remarkable insights into our problems and discussed succinctly of all that’s gone wrong but there are this whole bunch of voices that do nothing but murder the image of others and themselves! It’s quite like the stench of leaking toilet and it’s totally unpleasant! This may sound harsh but in venting out your anger or frustration through offensive speeches, you are only expressing the rottenness that lies deep within. Jesus said, “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” The Bible calls it “empty words” and this sin will condemn you on the final judgment day (Matthew 12:36, 37).

It’s important to inculcate decency and proper use of language in voicing out to the public domain. In learning, it is noble and wise to choose the brighter and hopeful way of using words to correct, rebuke, encourage and motivate people to do right and not contrariwise. Remember the stern warning of Jesus, “Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister ‘Raca,’ (An Aramaic term of contempt) is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell (Matthew 5:22).
