Slogan & painting competition on World Ozone Day

Dimapur, September 10 (MExN): The World Ozone Day 2017 will be observed under the theme ‘Caring for all life under the sun’ on September 16.   The United Nations General Assembly on January 23, 1995 adopted resolution 49/114 which proclaims September 16 as the World Ozone Day commemorating the date on which Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the Ozone Layer was signed in 1987.   Keeping in view the 30th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol and the ongoing Ozone Heroes campaign of the Ozone Secretariat, United Nations Environment Programme, it has been proposed to have a workshop and painting and slogan writing competitions in various schools across the country.   “The participating students will become the ‘Ozone Heroes’ for spreading the awareness on Ozone Layer Protection and its environmental benefits,” informed a press release issued by Rusovil John, Member Secretary & State Nodal Officer, National Green Corps Programme.   The competitions on the theme ‘Protection of the Ozone Layer’ for the students in the age group of 13-17 may be organized in the school: Painting- Drawing Sheet; and Slogan Writing- Drawing Sheet.   The best entry in each category from each school should be submitted to the Nagaland Pollution Control Board, State Nodal Agency under the National Green Corps (Eco Club) Programme. The best entry of painting and slogan received from all the schools in the State will then be evaluated and finalized by a panel of judges. The regional office of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change handling the State will evaluate and finalize the winners.   Winners of the different categories in each State/Union Territory of the competition will be awarded prizes as follows: 1st Prize – Cash Prize of Rs. 10,000 + Certificate; 2nd Prize – Cash Prize of Rs. 7,500 + Certificate; 3rd Prize – Cash Prize of Rs. 5,000 + Certificate; Consolation Prize 1 – Cash Prize of Rs. 2,000 + Certificate; Consolation Prize 2 – Cash Prize of Rs. 2,000 + Certificate.   The schools have also been requested to observe the World Ozone Day on September 16 and spread awareness about the protection of the Ozone Layer among the students.
