Social media help identify abandoned baby

Dimapur, MAY 14 (MExN): The Dimapur police today informed that the process is on for safely returning a new born baby, who was found at Khatihar Railway Station, Bihar.  

According to a press release, the Dimapur police on May 11 received information from Childline Dimapur about a baby boy, who was found at the Khatihar Railway Station on May 10 with a train ticket showing its origination from Dimapur.  

Suspecting it to be a case of kidnapping for “trafficking or other ulterior motives,” the release said that the Dimapur police alongwith Childline Dimapur immediately started inquiry in tandem with information circulated on various social media platforms.  

The same day, the Dimapur police received information of the baby’s biological family residing in Kohima. “The Police received a call from Kohima on May 11 from the family members of the child and the identification of the child was made.”  

While stating that process was on to return the child to his family, the release added that further inquiries were on “to ascertain the facts of the case.” Meanwhile, the child is under the care of the Childline Khatihar.  

The Dimapur police said that cooperation from the public and the various social media platforms proved crucial in the timely identification of the abandoned child.
