Special Recruitment Drive and its fallout

•-The State government's recent declaration of Special Recruitment Drive and its subsequent withdrawal have once again opened up the Pandora's box thereby creating a feeling of suspicion and jealous among the so called backward and the major tribes. The direct fallout as a result of the withdrawal of SRD has been the regular tirades against the 4 major tribes by various bodies/individuals of the backward tribes and the State Government. These outbursts against the 4 tribes are uncalled for as the State Government made the decision unilaterally without taking into consideration the views of the student bodies/tribal hohos of the 4 tribes.
It might have been a good intent on the part of the State government but considering the forthcoming election, to a lay person this move appears to be nothing less than pure vote bank politics. As also, if the state Government is really interested in uplifting the backward tribes, I believe they would make bigger progressive stride if they stress on developmental projects both tangible and intangible instead of making such unfeasible and unrealistic one time adjustments.
The backward tribes have been enjoying the benefits of reservation for the past 3-4 decades and the govt even when to the extent of further enhancing the reservation percentage from 32 to 37% as such SRD is like adding salt to injury. They had justified the act by tabling out the number of gazetted officers from the 4 tribes, but the tabulation should have been done on the basis of proportionate ratio of total officers to total population. SRD has been buried but it still haunts us. Everyday we come across articles terming us as STINGY/JEALOUS and trying to keep them under our thumb for opposing the move. They justify such remarks by saying its just 1 post for each tribe. But have they ever tried to view it from our side? To them its a gain of mere 1 post but to us its a lost of 10 post which is quite huge keeping in view the unemployment status in our state. Reservation to a certain limit is acceptable but crossing that limit amounts to corruption.
Lastly, allow me to take a parting dig at our state government. Uou may think you're uplifting them through such drives and relaxation, but the truth is you're only making them more dependent/ancient. “Sympathize with a cripple you make him a cripple for life. Throw in a challenge, you make him a man”.
This article is my own opinion and not the general feeling among the entire tribe.....though majority may vouch for this write up.
