Department of English, St John College (SJC), Dimapur carried out an educational trip with BA 4th Semester English Honors students by visiting ‘Famous LetterPress,’ a design studio, store and printing press in Jail Road, Dimapur.

A press release from Media Cell, St John College stated the seventeen students were given a guided tour inside the studio by the establishment and their interest on various publishing tools and techniques were answered. They were shown how their indigenous fusion art is created on an antique ‘original Heidelberg’ printing press, designed for fine finish.

The visit was followed by a brief talk by the Assistant Director of SJC, Setuomenuo Ao, who was the brainchild of the project.

The team held discussion at Central Perk café and aimed at understanding the nuances of production process and how an author-publisher stand-off exists to produce either marketable or quality products. The commercialization of literary works and the author’s involvement in the process of publishing original work was broadly interrogated in the regional and national context.

The team was accompanied by Ghunato Neho, Assistant Professor of English. This visit enabled the students to see a glimpse of the vast chains of industry involved in cultural production.
