In a tragic incident, a B Sc 1st semester student of Immanuel College, Dimapur was found dead inside a classroom early morning of September 13. The deceased is suspected to have committed suicide by hanging himself with a piece of cloth tied to the ceiling fan in the classroom.

The student identified as Tatongyanger and hailing from Mangmetong Village Mokokchung was staying in the hostel attached with the college since August 11, 2017. The body was discovered by a class 11 student who entered the classroom to sit for mid-term exam around 8:15 am. After the body was discovered, the warden was informed, who then called the police.

A lecturer from the college said the deceased was a good student and had cleared all the internal exams and was preparing to sit for the Nagaland University semester exam scheduled in October. On the night of September 12, the deceased was feeling a little restless, the lecturer said. Upon inquiry by his hostel mate, the deceased is reported to have attributed it to stomach pain.

The next morning, when the roommate did not find the deceased in his room, he found nothing amiss as hostellers usually go up to the terrace to study or for social works in the morning. Even during breakfast, other fellow hostellers thought he may have gone out of campus to buy stationeries, the lecture stated.

Dimapur Police when contacted ruled out any foul play and suspected it to be a case of suicide, though the reason for the same could not be ascertained. A case has been registered under Cr. P.C. 174 which pertains to inquire and report on suicide. However, the family of the deceased has ruled out the possibility of a post-mortem and no investigation will be conducted into the matter.

The PRO, Dimapur Police, stated that the case cannot be related to the ‘Blue Whale’ game.

After completing formalities, the police handed over the body to the relatives. The body was later taken to his village after a brief funeral.
