Students made aware on harmful effects of tobacco

Phek, November 2 (MExN): National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) Phek conducted an awareness and sensitization programme on the harmful effects of tobacco at Christian Mission Higher Secondary School, Phek on November 2.  

The resource person Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo District Nodal Officer (NTCP) Phek, through power point presentation highlighted the students and teachers on the harmful effects of tobacco and the harmful chemicals contain in tobacco which causes cancer and are dangerous to health. She informed the participants that the history of patients suffering from oral cancer started their tobacco consumption during adolescents. She added that tobacco is the single greatest preventable cause of death in the world today.  

Dr. Lase presented the Tobacco Statistics of Nagaland where he disclosed that Nagaland has the highest percentage of consumption of smokeless tobacco and ranks second in tobacco consumption.  

The resource person called upon the students not to indulge in the habit of consumption of tobacco which is harmful to our body as it contains more than 7000 harmful chemicals several of which can cause cancer.  

Leaflets on the harmful effects of tobacco were handed out.
