Students prepare for disaster management in Kohima

School awareness programme on disaster management held at St Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School, Kohima on October 21.

 

Kohima, October 22 (MExN): In order to sensitize students about disasters and preparedness on emergency risk management, school awareness programme was organized on October 21 in Kohima.


A total of 311 students from class 10-12 and seven faculties of St Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School, Kohima participated in the programme.


The lecture-cum-demonstration on disaster management school awareness programme was conducted by the rescue team of 12th Battalion National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and District Response Team, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kohima led by Inspector Rakesh Manipal and ASI/LD R Sitamong.


Keynote address and introduction of the team was done by John Makhabo, District Youth Coordinator (DYC) of NYK Kohima.


Rev Fr Jaison, Principal St Mary’s Cathedral HSS expressed gratitude to the NDRF and District Response Team NYK Kohima.


The training session on strengthening national disaster response was organized to help the students understand the steps to be adopted to respond to various disaster situations.


In the event, it was told that a high state of preparedness were the necessary steps to handle crisis successfully.
Professional volunteers provided the students with proper training and education.


To create awareness among the students about firefighting techniques, CPR and the way of response swiftly in times of such emergency situations, a mock drill was carried out.


It was organized to check the readiness of the school in case of any emergency during disaster. An exhibition of recue was also held in the school premises and a live demonstration was given to students and evaluation was done after the session.
