Dimapur, May 11 (MExN): Students of Don Bosco Hr. Sec School and Christ King Hr. Sec. School were capacitated on peace education on May 10. Susan Kulnu, Peace activist, Ayekali Aye, Elivi and Lulu Awomi, Volunteers, DBCK capacitated 51 students and three teacher animators of the schools.
Susan Kulnu in her address ‘Peace and Peace Building’ at Christ King Hr. Sec School stated that peace is an essential requirement of humankind which is necessary for progress, development and sustainability, a press release stated. Emphasizing the need for peace and peace building she exhorted the students to understand the concept of peace, and take up initiatives in one’s own home and locality to transform a culture of violence into a culture of peace. Peace building, she added, is an intervention that is designed to prevent the start or resumption of violent conflict by creating sustainable peace.
Ayekali Aye speaking on ‘Skills needed for peace building’ at Don Bosco Hr. Sec School reiterated that peace building consists of activities associated with capacity building, reconciliation and societal transformation which is designed to address the causes of conflict, the grievances of the past and promote long term stability and justice, the release added. She further emphasised on the essential skills for peace-building, which include critical thinking, communication skills, dialogue, mediation and rapport building.
Lulu Awomi and Elivi initiated the concluding peace prayer and anthem.
