Students showcase science projects

Students from around 13 schools under Dimapur district on Thursday showcased different science projects focusing on common problems and its solutions during a State Level INSPIRE Science Exhibition and Project Competition 2017 Part –II at Government Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.

Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Awards - MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge) scheme is executed by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Science & Technology and National Innovation Foundation – India covering students in the age group of 10-32 years and has five components.  

Speaking at the programme, Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO), Dimapur, R. Amongla Jamir encouraged students to take opportunity of the scheme to intently look into day-to-day problems and bring out innovative ideas to mitigate the daily issues and problems in a scientific manner.  

She urged the teachers to motivate the students to develop scientific temper and accordingly mould them by identifying their talents. The DDEO also laid emphasise on vocational courses to be taught in schools. She advised the students not to compromise on hardwork and encouraged them to keep learning even outside their classrooms since bookish knowledge was not enough to be at the forefront in this competitive era.  

During the competition, the first position was bagged by Kilangjungla of El Shaddai School, followed by Meyawati Walling of Livingstone Higher Secondary School in second position and Viyili Awomi of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in the third place.  

To participate in the INSPIRE award – MANAK, students can also send original and creative technological ideas/innovations on common problems and solutions thereby to their schools which may submit the same through website http:/nif.org.in/inspire/2017/submit-inspire-idea on or before August 15, 2017.  

Those students whose projects are shortlisted under top 1 lakh will be awarded an amount of Rs 10, 000/- each through Direct Benefit Transfer into their bank accounts.  

The list will gradually be shortlisted to 10, 000, 1000 and 60 respectively. Students have been encouraged to submit as many entries as they wish.
