Students told to develop cultivation of mind-set transformation

Khensa, January 3 (MExN): As part of the Khensa Students’ Union Platinum Jubilee Celebration, topic presentations were delivered on ‘Academics and Competitive Exams’ and ‘Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’ by Dr. Sashiyangba, District Project Officer, Land Resource, Mokokchung and Supongsashi, IFS Deputy Conservator of Forest, Hanumangarh, Rajasthan respectively on December 30 last.  

Skill Development and Entrepreneurship

Dr. Sashiyangba started off his presentation with the definition of “Skill” according to the speaker is “an ability to do an activity or job well especially because you have practiced it.” He also quoted the definition of “entrepreneurship” as the activity of setting up a business taking financial risk in the hope of profit, capacity and willingness to develop, organise and manage a business venture along with make a profit.  

The speaker pointed out some of the problems amongst the educated youth today are High degree/unskilled; High cost/high investment/ready to buy job; Wasting time with the technology; Dependent culture; and Early education/Late in job and marriage.  

Speaking in context of Khensa Village, the speaker said that trained teachers, accessibility to local and international market, creativity, experts in different field, good infrastructure, and natural resource are some of our strength and resources.  

“The mind-set of dependency and merely relying on aid from donor and Government should be erased from us. We should develop cultivation of mind-set transformation,” Dr. Sashi said while adding that one should stop comparing oneself to others.  

To the aspiring entrepreneurs, he encouraged them to start with identifying their interests, background and experiences, financial resources, market demand, problems one can solve, and one's network and connections. To make successful entrepreneurs, the speaker said, “One should be determined and creative individual, constantly improve and expand his/her business, assumes responsibility for both profit and losses and building up skill beyond your gate.”  

Academics and Competitive Exams

Informing the students and others attending the session, Supongsashi shared in detail about various types of competitive examinations and how to prepare for such exams.  

At the onset he passed across the question, “What motivates you for appearing competitive exam? Is it just for a job security, for having an income source or because your fellow friends are appearing the exam...” or the reason for your motivation is “for doing something for the people and the society... because you have a desire to work in that field.”  

Following this, he shared the three vital keys to achieve the goals and aims in life which includes Determination, Hard Work and Time Management. He said that one should have the determination to wisely decide what he or she wants to do and make a firm determination. Encouraging the gathering, he said, “Don't let your failure deter your determination, keep Constant Self-motivation, always be Positive and never say, I Can’t.”  

He also clearly stated that there is no shortcut to success. One should devote 6-8 hours every day in studies, learn with understanding and not just memorizing the content and should be constant and regular.  

For achieving success, he said that one should maintain overall management of time. He said that, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. What the wise man does in the beginning, the fool does in the end.” He also shared about key to success in life with references from the Bible and quoted that “The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” which “prolongs life.”  

In conclusion, he challenged the gathering of students and parents to invest more interest and importance in the area of skill and entrepreneurship for making progress in every aspect.
