‘Super 30’ founder graces Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj function

Dimapur, June 25 (MExN): Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj (NBS), Dimapur held its 8th felicitation programme for the rank holders and meritorious students of the community on June 24 at Holy Cross auditorium here.  

Anand Kumar, founder and director of ‘Super 30' was the chief guest. An educational programme running under the banner of Ramanujan School of Mathematics, Super 30 hunts for 30 meritorious talents from among the economically backward sections of the society and shapes them for India's most prestigious institution – the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). They are given accommodation, food, and coaching at no cost.  

Addressing the gathering, Anand Kumar shared some personal facts on how he could not get into good institutions for want of money, informed a press release from NBS secretary, Pramod Singh. Even after having secured a seat in Cambridge University, he could not take admission due to financial constraints. This had a severe impact on his father, a postal clerk, and led to his untimely death, it was informed. The incident propelled him into greater efforts.  

Kumar stated he did not lose hope and thought of poor students who were talented, but finance was a hindrance. Super 30 came into being when a student, who was poor and wanted to get into IIT, reached out to him in 2000.  

Kumar exhorted the students to remember and put into practice four mantras – tremendous efforts, positive thinking, arduous hard work, and great patience. He told the gathering how the students of Super 30 discuss and learn constantly and continuously even while eating or doing some other work. He also expressed his desire to have a test centre of Super 30 in Dimapur with the support of Nagaland Bhojpuri Samaj.  

Kumar also talked about his biopic on Super 30, in which Hrithik Roshan plays his part. Scheduled for January 25, 2019 release, the film has Abhishek from Dimapur as one of the students.  

The chief guest was accompanied by his friend Ajay Yadav, convener of Namami Gange project, Bihar.   The first ever annual magazine of the Samaj ‘Aarohanam’ edited by Dr. Sant K. Gupta, Jt. Secretary was also released on the occasion by the chief guest.  

The chairman of the Samaj, KP Avikasit heaped praises on Kumar in his welcome speech for having taken practical steps for uplifting the poorest of the poor.  

The Secretary of the Samaj, Pramod Singh meanwhile exhorted the students to use their potential to the full. “Different from the apes, we can put our thumb and index finger together through which we can hold a pen and that gives us a great advantage. We can fulfill our desires and goals provided our full dedication and sincere efforts are put in,” he stated. He also announced that in coming years NBS has decided to felicitate and honor the State topper of HSLC, highest mark achiever in Hindi subject irrespective of any caste and creed.  

50 students were felicitated at the programme, which was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel (IAS), various community leaders, NGOs and principals of different colleges.  

The programme was compered by Kavya Thakur, a post graduate student of the community studying at Shantiniketan, along with Uttam Singh, Convener, cultural activities of the Samaj.
