Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan in Nagaland jails

Kohima, April 30 (MExN): The Directorate of Prisons, Nagaland and all the prisons in Nagaland embarked upon a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Kohima and all jails in Nagaland on April 29.

The DG Prisons, all staff and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Brand Ambassadors participated in the efforts in Kohima. Kohima DEF personnel also participated by providing security and manpower.

The highlight of the programmes was the participation of prison inmates in Swacch Bharat Mission. The inmates of the District Jail Kohima were also allowed and encouraged to participate in the cleaning outside the jail premises in the Prison Directorate. About 20 prisons inmates undertook the exercise outside the jail premises/wall while others were engaged in the effort within the jail. In all other jails, the inmates and staff actively engaged themselves in the cleanliness campaign, cleaning the jail premises from within.

Speaking on the occasion, Rupin Sharma IPS, DG Prisons, CD & HG highlighted the Swacch Bharat Mission and its importance and exhorted upon the inmates to keep the premises clean and participate with fervour.

Swacch Bharat Ambassadors, Hokogba Chisi, Vizopal Chaya, S. Supongmeren Jamir and T. Khongo were present during the entire Abhiyaan, both encouraging and participating in it. Speaking about the Mission, on behalf of all other Brand Ambassadors, S Supongmeren Jamir said that while Swacch Bharat is primarily to keep our environment clean, prisoners could also try to cleanse their minds and hearts and channelize their energies, in a positive direction.

He also asked the inmates to take this opportunity to reform themselves and become productive components of the society.

On the occasion, keeping in line with the recent Govt decision to ban/remove the Red/VIP beacon, the VIP light on the official vehicle of DG Prisons  CD & HG was also removed. The vehicle beacon was removed by a prison inmate and handed over to Vizopal Chaya in a symbolic gesture.

The Prison Directorate thanked everyone who participated in the programme, including inmates, staff of the entire Prisons department and jails, DEF Kohima, NAP and brand ambassadors, to make the occasion a success.
