Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign launched in Nagaland state

Joining the rest of the country, the Nagaland state’s department of Public Health Engineering (PHE) today launched Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign here at the PHED conference hall.  

PHED WSSO director Er. Y. Tep in his keynote address said that Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign will be marked by various activities from September 15 till October 2.  

September 17 will focus on construction of toilets, September 24- toilet cleaning and surrounding cleaning drive, September 25- large scale cleaning of hospital, parks, statues, bus stops, railway stations, ponds and toilets, October 1- massive cleanliness drive in iconic places, October 2- National Swachh Bharat award.  

He called upon the public to extend their cooperation and work in unison to make Nagaland a clean state.  

Er. Tep also administered Swachhata Hi Sewa pledge. It pledged to create a clean, healthy and new India and dedicate oneself to ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ movement starting September 15 till Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.  

It also vowed to promote cleanliness in households, schools and colleges, health centres, railway stations, bus stops, pond and all other public places, open defecation free villages and towns through construction of twin pit toilets for oneself and others who themselves cannot make one.  

Further, it pledged for behaviour change by using toilets and washing hands and adoption of other Swachh practices and also management of solid and liquid waste by adopting the principle of “Reduce, Recycle and Reuse” and safe management of solid and liquid waste.  

Earlier, the function was chaired by Er. Repang Longkumer, Additional Chief Engineer, PHED.
