Swu’s mortal remains to arrive today

Public Memorial Service today at Agri Expo at 2:00pm

  DIMAPUR, JUNE 29 (MExN): The mortal remains of NSCN (IM) Chairman, Isak Chishi Swu, who passed away in New Delhi on June 28 is scheduled to arrive on June 30 at Dimapur airport.   Timing for condolence service and funeral service of Chairman Isak Chishi SwuA public memorial service is being organized by the Naga Hoho and ENPO at the Agri-Expo, Dimapur at 2:00pm on the same day. The Nagaland State Governor and Chief Minister will be attending the service.   On July 1, a state funeral service will be held Hebron HQ, and thereafter proceed to Swu’s native village, with stopovers in Kohima, Tseminyu-Pughoboto Junction and Pughoboto town. The last funeral and committal service will be held at 11:00am on July 2 at Chishilimi Village.   The organizers have informed Naga civil societies, various Naga tribe organisations, all the Naga national political groups, political parties, concerned citizens and well wishers to attend the public memorial service.   NSCN (IM) declares 7-day mourning period The NSCN (IM) has declared a seven day mourning period to be observed throughout Nagalim from June 28 to July 4 as a mark of respect to late Isak Chishi Swu, who passed away on June 28. A press note from the GPRN Cabinet Office informed that during this mourning period, “the National Flag will fly half-mast in all government offices and the official residences of authorities and there will be no official entertainment.”   APO to hold public reception in Kohima The Angami Public Organisation (APO) has informed that it will be organizing a public reception to “honour the great Naga leader at Kohima town on Friday, July 1.”   A press note from the President of APO informed all concerned tribe organizations and NGOs based in Kohima to coordinate with APO for the event at the earliest. “During the proceeding hours of the arrival of the body, the normal life and activities will be disrupted therefore the APO has requested the public to cooperate and pay the last respect to the leader. A short tribute service will be held at Old MLA Junction, details of which will be disseminated soon,” the APO further said.   Education institutes asked to close down The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has appealed all educational institutions in the entire Naga inhabited areas to remain closed on July 1 as a mark of love and respect. It directed all the Federating Units & Subordinate bodies to disseminate the information & monitor in their respective jurisdiction. It also requested all trade/business union/association/chamber of commerce and concerned business establishment in entire Naga areas to remain closed on July 1.   The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union has directed closure of all educational institutions under its jurisdictions on June 30.   The All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA) Dimapur Unit has also directed all its member schools in and around Dimapur to remain closed on June 30 as a mark of respect for the departed soul.  
Businesses in Dimapur to close from 6am to 6pm The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) has meanwhile asked all business establishments to close down from 6:00am to 6:00pm as a mark of respect. Similarly, the East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA) has also informed all shops & business houses located within their jurisdiction would close down from 6:00am to 6:00pm.  

Condolence service held in New Delhi

NEW DELHI, JUNE 29 (MExN): A condolence service for Isak Chishi Swu was held in New Delhi on Wednesday evening.  The service began with traditional salute to the departed leader by young Naga girls and boys dressed in complete traditional attire. Swu’s family members and several people belonging to the Naga community and well wishers in the city, including government dignitaries, attended the service. NSCN (IM) General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah; Nagaland MP, Neiphiu Rio; Interlocutor to the Naga Peace Talks, RN Ravi; Supreme Court Advocate, Nandita Haksar; and prominent journalists Bharat Bhushan  and Deepak Deewan spoke on the occasion. Rev.  Dr. Ricky Medom, Pastor of Naga Christian Fellowship, Delhi shard the funeral message.   All the speakers talked about Swu’s deep rooted faith in God in his personal life which also shaped his ideology about the Naga movement. Bharat Bhushan, in particular said that Swu had taught Indian leaders about patience, forgiveness and far sightedness.
