Tailoring centre launched in Wokha to combat plastic use, provide alternative livelihood

Wokha, June 3 (MExN): Wokha Deputy Commissioner, Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon inaugurated a Tailoring & Training at Lotha Eloe Hoho Ki on June 1. The Centre was established by the District Administration Wokha in collaboration with Lotha Eloe Hoho under Government policy for restricting the use of plastic in the district. The DC, on behalf of tthe District Administration, also donated seven sewing machines and also materials as one time assistance for cloth bag making.

The cloth bag making centre is initiated as an alternative livelihood and also an alternative to support the Government policy to restrict the use of plastic. The DC, stating this centre as a welcoming step during the inaugural speech said that it is a small contribution from District Administration and Wokha Town Council so that some can get a meaningful employment and earn livelihood out of this centre. He also added the cloth bag made at the centre can be a better alternative to plastic bags.

 This centre is initiated for a long term solution and urged members to think in terms of how to generate revenue out of it to make it more sustainable. And hoped that this centre become a very important step for the future initiative. He also appealed to the civil societies to spread the awareness about the use of cloth bags.

Stating Wokha town has a long way to go when it comes to cleanliness, restricting the use of plastic bags and improvement of basic infrastructure and urged all to take cleanliness very seriously and sincerely and make it a habit like the way we clean our home every day and appealed to contribute in whatever small ways to make our town more cleaner and beautiful.
 Advisor, Lotha Eloe Hoho Orenponi Ezung thanked the District Administration and Wokha Town Council for the help extend towards the up liftmen of the women community.

ADC & Administrator Wokha Town Council highlighted about the Government policy for restrict the use of plastic bags and urged all to extend co-operation towards this initiative. SDO (C), Wokha, Chonbenthung Ezung said, banning of plastic is an opportunity for the locals as paper bags and cloth bags will be in more demand and urged to take this opportunity resourcefully. 

As an encouragement to the noble initiative of the District Administration and the Lotha Eloe Hoho, 5000 (five thousand) bio degradable Nursery bag was ordered by District Forest Officer, Wokha in support of the Government policy for restricting the use plastic in Nagaland and to phase out plastic poly bags. 

A DIPR report informed that the inaugural programme was chaired by Vice President, Lotha Eloe Hoho.
