Tasile Zeliang conferred honorary doctorate

Kohima, April 29 (MExN): Tasile N. Zeliang from Nagaland, on April 28, was conferred honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) by Gauhati University in recognition of her work in the field of education, sports and social service in the State.  

The Governor of Assam and Chancellor, Gauhati University, Banwarilal Purohit conferred the Degree to Tasile in the 26th Convocation of the University in the BKB Auditorium at the university campus, Guwahati on April 28.  

The University regards it as unique achievement and significant contribution to the society at large, stated a press release from the PRO to Nagaland Governor.  

Her ‘Scroll of Honour’ stated that Tasile, who hails from Peren, Nagaland is the daughter of a freedom fighter has versatile personality, it said adding that she has dedicated her life to teaching and is an author in her native tongue.  

She has received numerous awards, the most recent ones being Ojoswani Yuwak Alankar (2011), New Art Payer Award (2015) and The Best Citizens of India Award (2017).  

Expressing his happiness that Tasile and Nabam Tata from Arunachal Pradesh have been conferred with honorary doctorate, the Governor of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, PB Acharya opined that people from all walks of life must be recognized by the Universities for their selfless and unique services to the society and the Nation, the release said.  

He also said that such conferment will encourage the dedicated and extraordinary individuals and also motivate many others to work towards sustaining cultural heritage, preservation of fragile environment and overall prosperity and empowerment of every section of the society and gender, it added.  

Acharya, who is the former Governor of Assam and also the former Chancellor, Gauhati University, well aware of the valuable works of Tasile in the field education, sports and social service in the State had recommended her name for the recognition, the release further maintained.
