Kohima, December 5 (MExN): Parliamentary Secretary for Technical Education, N Thomas Lotha today informed SCTE members that the Department of Technical Education is bringing a technical university to Nagaland very soon with five colleges under it.
Speaking at the 9th meeting of the State Council for Technical Education (SCTE), Thomas, who is also the chairman of SCTE, stated, “We should be open to any organisation that can bring educational institutes into our land irrespective of religious inclination.”
He also apprised the SCTE members that LED manufacturing unit will be set up at Government Polytechnic Kohima very shortly, informed a press release from Director of Technical Education.
Meanwhile, Thomas lamented the poor facilities and infrastructures in the state. Nagaland, he said, has been one of the most neglected states where there is not even a single engineering college.
Highlighting the broad objectives of the Council, he stated that it was constituted to formulate policies for technical education in the State and hence it is important.
Earlier, the meeting held in the conference hall of Directorate of Technical Education started with welcome address by CM Tsanglao, Secretary, Higher & Technical Education, Government of Nagaland. He mentioned that many Senior Officers could not attend the meeting due to heavy engagements, the release said.
NBSE Chairperson, Asano Sekhose, Pro-Vice Chancellor NU, Meriema Campus, Prof. RC Gupta and Er. YL Thongtsar from Industries & Commerce were among others who attended the meeting.
