Tetso College celebrates 24th Freshers’ Day

• Awards scholarship of 34 Lakhs to 67 Students

• Launches ‘Nagaland’s first college mobile App’

• Announces Governor of Nagaland’s Dr. T Ao Scholarship Award  

Dimapur, July 16 (MExN): Tetso College, Dimapur held its 24th Freshers’ Day: Salvete 2018 with Professor Pradeshi Lal, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University as the guest of honor on July 16.  

The College stated in a press release that the event was held to welcome the new students with speeches and performances from both the teachers and the students. Tetso College, Principal Dr. PS Lorin officially welcomed the freshers into the Tetso family and announced that “as per the Tetso tradition every new student is Mr. & Ms. Fresher.”  

Director, Kvulo Lorin announced that 600 students from all districts of Nagaland out of which six toppers from the NBSE top ten list have joined Tetso College. The occasion was further significant as the programme was organized by the newly elected Tetso Student Council without any monetary collection from the students this time. In addition, the College has awarded scholarships worth 34 Lakhs to 67 Students to ensure that any student which also includes special needs students, so that no deserving student is denied admission.  

During the function, the College also made two other important announcements: The launching of “Nagaland’s first college mobile App” developed in-house and is available for download on the android Google playstore. It will be available for download by apple users by next week. The app can be used by parents, students or people who want more information to keep track of college news, pay fees online and more! Also the Governor of Nagaland’s Dr. T Ao Scholarship Award was also announced. This award is open to all Tetso students. The scholarship recipient will receive a certificate, trophy and Gift Hampers from Indigenous Naga Entrepreneurs. Under this scholarship, the student must complete a field project on the theme ‘Naga Culture, languages, Traditions, or Folklore.’  

Professor Pradeshi Lal in his keynote address discussed about the importance of education and gave two characteristics that each student must have. He advised the students not to confine oneself only to the four walls of the classroom in aiming only for the gold medal but to participate in extracurricular activities and get involved in sports. “We should also learn to have fun and play games as well,” he said. Concluding his speech, he shared about the 3Cs that everyone must have: “Character, Credibility and Conscience.”  

Felicitation and awards was presided over by Mhabeni Tungoe, Dean of Tetso College in which teacher and students were recognised for 100% attendance in the last academic session. Certificate was also presented to the Commerce Dept for securing Gold medals in Accounting & Finance Honours, and Management Honours in the recently declared NU Undergraduate Semester Exam 2018 Results.  

The event was hosted by Khyochamo Yanthan of 5th Semester and Josaingdi Khemprai of 3rd Semester. The programme was followed up by an informal session where students showcased their talents, including a surprise performance by the band ‘Colored Keys’.
