Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K Therie, has predicted ‘swing of votes’ in favour of the Indian National Congress party in the upcoming 2019 state assembly election.

The NPCC president said the ‘Clean election’ appeal made by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council and various NGOs would swing at least 15 percent of the state’s voters, who are fed up with the “corrupt” NPF-led DAN government. Anti-incumbency factor will account for another 5 percent swing of votes, Therie said.

Therie claimed both the factors would work against the NPF as the regional party had only ushered in more corruption and mis-governance in the state for the 15 years.

He said the main mission of State Congress Party, which has just concluded its tour to all 11 districts of the state, is that Nagaland must remove corruption and install a clean government run by God-fearing leaders. He also said his party would spare no effort to wipe out the ideology, principles and political philosophy of the RSS, which is trying to gain foothold in Nagaland through its political wing - the BJP.

The NPCC president was addressing party workers at the ‘Public meeting for change’ here at Town Hall on Thursday, as part of the NPCC’s last-leg tour of the all districts.

Therie said the State Congress Party at present command 27 percent of the vote share, the lowest in the history of the party. He however exuded confidence that with the predicted 20 percent swing in votes, the vote share of the State Congress Party would increase to 40 percent or above in the 2018 assembly election, giving the party the edge to form the next government.

Belittling the scope of other political parties in the 2018 election, he speculated that the NPF which is a divided house and communal BJP would not be able to garner more than 20 percent each of the vote share.

Therie further said NPCC is committed to bring settlement to the Nagaland political problem.

Senior NPCC leaders and officials including NPCC working president, Ayungba, vice president, Shami Angh, general secretary, Jonathan, and Ahidur Rahman of minority cell, also addressed the party workers.

Earlier, DCC Dimapur president, S Kughato Aye, delivered the welcome address.
