Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K. Therie today said the major road block in Nagaland is political problem.

“We understand every single citizen wanted peaceful political solution. The political aspiration expressed by public through plebiscite in 1951 remains the core political stand. While we continue to treasure and respect the 1951 mandate, we cannot ignore realities of religion and science that are changing, humankind fast forward civilizations,” he said, while addressing the valedictory function of the 18th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy here today at Kohima Local Ground.

In the present situation, Therie said, government of the day has washed their hands from working to solve the political problem.

“They have decided to facilitate and support the ongoing peace process. We have no objection if peaceful solution can be delivered,” he said. “Our stand is without seeing the content of the solution we cannot give blank cheque. We are here to support peaceful solution, if it is good for the people.”

In the event of failure to do that before election, we intend to revive NNO resolution that was adopted in Pfutsero in 1972 “to endeavour solve the political problem through peaceful and constitutional means,” Therie added.

In the given situation, he said, we have destroyed our relation with all neighbouring states for wrong policy. “There is no political vision to protect life and property. There is trust deficit in the mind of nation leaders... It is power and position, there is no political philosophy.”

Therie pointed out corruption has divided the society between the haves and have not. He lamented that assassination, killings have continued in the name of sovereignty and integration, adding illegal multi-taxation is allowed to be systemized.   He also stated there seems to be no shame in exhibiting ill acquired wealth from unknown source of income.

“They have bought land, buildings, constructed high rise building, hotels and chain of hotels. Bribe takers are acknowledged as leaders. In other states or nation they would be in jails. There is no more inherent honesty and moral. Our leaders have failed to control the instinct of I want more.”

Bias, nepotism, table tenders, backdoor appointments, centralization of powers and payments, he added, are new system.

Stating that everyone has been angered by pothole roads and traffic congestion, the NPCC president said, “Anger has filled to level of throat. I am sure they also know it is wrong, but they cannot correct, for there in none to throw the first stone.”

Citing an example of Ukraine, where corrupt parliamentarian was thrown to the garbage trailer by public, he stated, “Here in Nagaland, the more they are corrupt, the more followers they have. They believe voters can be bought like materials. It is time we turn to become sensible humankind from materials.”
