Thilixu Village Council claims Power Minister cutoff public road

DIMAPUR, MAY 23 (MExN): Thilixu Village Council has alleged that at around 10 am this morning, the Minister for Power, sent the department JCB to Thilixu Village Atosa and forcefully cutoff the road which was being constructed under NREGA. “The JCB has completely cutoff the lifeline of nearly 400 household by digging almost 3 feet under”, stated a press note from the council. Many children also use the road to go to school. According to the press note, “the Minister is claiming that the land on which the road is being constructed belongs to him”. “But in reality, the road is public property and it has been in use for the last 20 years by the village”, the Thilixu Village Council stated.
Further it was claimed that the “very small portion of his land which is adjoining the road was dug for widening” and that “this was done with the knowledge of his brothers as there is a standing public resolution in the village that everyone will pave way for development without complaining”. “The village is not grabbing his land. We are only maintaining common property. He can keep his portion of the land but he should not cutoff public property. What the Minister has done is very unbecoming of a public leader”, the press note stated.
The council has condemned the act of the Minister and his men while reminding that the road served as a lifeline to many school children and it also leads to Thilixu bloc-B fellowship church. The Council further clarified that it will go ahead with the work as it is in their NREGA programme. “We are not claiming the Minister’s land or the road which he claims to be his. We are only making the road better for public benefit”. The press note was issued by Thilixu Village Council Chairman, Khevishe Sema, Secretary Kahuto, VDB Secretary Kisheto, Head GB Hekuto and GBs Yekhushe, Inaho, Tokishe, Honikhe, Hekikhe and Sukhavi.
