‘Think deeper and look beyond mere festivities’

Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Youth Organization, Dimapur Region, organized advent Christmas here at Urban Haat on Friday evening with Deputy Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Zhaleo Rio as special guest. Zhaleo in his address said the festive season is a time to have a relook into one’s personal life and to rededicate “our commitment to our personal savior”, to think deeper and look beyond mere festivities.

Zhaleo said Nagas like to call themselves as God’s chosen people and everyone professes to be Christians. “But in my personal opinion, we (Nagas) take Christianity in a very casual manner”, he said and added for most Nagas, especially the youth, Christmas is equated with delicious food, new clothes, party and merrymaking.

According to Zhaleo, the real meaning of celebrating Christmas can be found in John 3:16. On the occasion, he called upon the NDPP party workers to take their responsibilities seriously and work with missionary zeal for the uplift and welfare of the citizens as a whole. He also reminded the party workers that they should acknowledge God’s blessings as though the NDPP was a new party with 18 elected MLAs out of a House of 60, the party was leading the PDA government and trying its best to fulfill its electoral promises.

Zhaleo assured that in the next two years people would finally see results in all developmental spheres. He further reminded party workers to follow NDPP motto “Facto non verba” (Deeds not words). After cutting the Christmas cake, the special guest also distributed gifts to children of Blind School, Notun Bosti. Chairman, NHHDC, Miathou Krose, also accompanied the special guest. Associate pastor of Dimapur Lotha Baptist Church, Yambemo Lotha, who invoked God’s blessings, in his brief Christmas message quoted John 8: 12-15 and said just like Jesus proclaiming “I am the light of the world”, every man and woman should also strive to be a “light” to others by spreading goodwill and peace. President NDPP Dimapur Region, Kughato S Aye, in his address highlighted on the various welfare activities undertaken by the party in the district in the past one year.

He also called upon party workers to work with renewed commitment for people’s welfare. Earlier, president NDPP youth organization, Toshimanen Lkr. delivered welcome address. On the occasion, inmates of Blind School presented songs, which endeared to the hearts of the listeners. Working president, youth organization, Dimapur-2, Imli Walling also belted out a special number. Secretary, NDPP Dimapur Region, Dipak Yholmow, chaired the programme and secretary, Lawrence Ovung proposed vote of thanks.
