Three Khels object to ‘water agreement’

Dimapur, July 31 (MExN): Three Khels in Phesama Village - Merama Khel, Seikhama Khel and Viyiema Khel- have raised objection to the "MOU" signed between Makhuma khel and PHED department on July 27 for the supply of water to Kohima Town from Dzucharu water source in Phesama village.

In a letter to the Chief Engineer, PHED, the three Khels declared the agreement “null and void” arguing that the other three Khels in Phesama village has come to know that “an MOU had been undertaken without the consent of the other khels, and should be treated as null and void.”

“This is in pursuance to the actual verbal agreement made between the Government and the Phesama village during 1966,wherein, the agreement was verbally made by the then Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues and the Phesama Villagers at Phesama Village and not by a particular Khel or individual as claimed,” the letter said.

In this regard, it informed the department that “the said MOU is declared null and void” and stated that any future agreement over the said matter “should have to be executed by a competent authority, that is at the Chief Minister’s level and Phesama Village Council.”

“The undersigned hereby appealed the concern authority for immediate necessary action,” stated the letter appended by Medokolie Zashumo, Vice Chairman Merama Khel; Medovi Khale, Chairman Seikhama Khel; and Vipazolie Seleyi,Chairman Viyiema Khel.
